Manganese Phosphating Conversion Coatings MIL-DTL-16232 Type M is an excellent coating for wear reduction and corrosion resistance when used with supplementary treatments such as oil, wax, lubricant, painting or powder coating. Manganese phosphate (mphos) MIL-DTL-16232 Type M coatings are typically much heavier than Zinc phosphate MIL-DTL-16232 Type Z coatings. Manganese phosphate coatings normally exhibit a uniform dark grey color that is durable and none light reflective.
MIL-DTL-16232 Type M phosphating is commonly used for the following types of components:
- Pistons and Bearings
- Machined parts
- Firearms and munitions
- Mortar Tubes and Gun Barrels
- Fasteners and Automotive components
Paramount Metal Finishing is the MIL Spec Specialist for both manganese phosphate as well as zinc phosphate coatings. Many of our processes have been directly approved by the US government.
Manganese phosphate and zinc phosphate conversion coatings to the MIL-STD-171 Standard, MIL-DTL-16232 Type M and Type Z Class 1, 2, & 3 as well as light zinc phosphate per TT-C-490 as pretreatment to powder coating and wet spraying.
Barrel and Rack processing on parts up to 9 feet. Abrasive blasting, stress relief and hydrogen embrittlement relief (HER) are available as well as solid film lubrication.
